Chevrolet History

Chevrolet (in the US, also unofficially Chevy) is a brand of cars produced and sold by the economically independent division of the corporation General Motors.

Chevrolet is the most popular among the brands of GM: in 2007, it was sold about 2.6 million cars.

The company was founded on November 3, 1911 by William Durant, who also founded General Motors in 1908, with the famous driver and automotive engineer Louis Chevrolet and investors William Little and Edwin Campbell. The company was named after Louis Chevrolet, who at that time was in the racing team of Buick. He was David Buick's favorite racer.

Emblem

There are several versions of the appearance of the emblem. The most popular and most famous is the beautiful story of how, during a trip to Paris, one of the founders of Chevrolet, William Durant, staying in the hotel, saw an interesting drawing on the wallpaper. The image was so well liked by Durant that on his arrival home he suggested using it as the emblem of the company. Two other versions were specified by members of the Durant family. So, his daughter wrote in memoirs that her father often painted various versions of the emblem, one of which was the famous bow-tie - the Chevrolet emblem. Durant's wife, in turn, claims that her husband borrowed the idea of the emblem from the newspaper advertisement of one of the coal companies of that time.

In Europe

In Europe, the brand was officially introduced in 2005. Under the Chevrolet brand, mainly South Korean Daewoo models are sold.

By the end of 2015, it is planned to phase out sales of Chevrolet cars in Europe. Instead, GM intends to promote its European brands - Opel and Vauxhall, as well as expand the dealer network of the premium brand Cadillac. It is intended to leave the Chevrolet brand exclusively for iconic and status American models (such as the Corvette). Earlier it was assumed that this strategy will not affect Russia and other CIS countries, where Chevrolet will retain its positions.
